Lightning Never Strikes Twice

WALT use adjectives and similes to describe a setting clearly

Example

Lightning never strikes twice, does it?
That was the question that occupied their  frightened minds as they crouched, huddling together, next the pile of dusty sacks in the base of the windmill…

   PLANNING!

What sounds could you hear during a thunderstorm?
What can you see? What are your feelings?  Are you touching anything? Are there any smells?
You might be able to think of some onomatopoeia.
Could you write a short paragraph describing what it would be like to be caught in a storm, using some of your ideas from above?
The thunder is roaring louder than a lion. I start to count in my head then, KABOOM! The lightning is smashing the ground and made me shake with fear.  The lightning sounds like a wicked witch screeching with laughter. The lightning is zapping the ground. ACHOO! The dust is making me sneeze. I crouch down next to four bags of flour, hoping they will save me. The sales of the mill starts to creak as it goes around. The lightnings veins are now spreading up to a hundred miles an hour! Now I can hear some tree branches snapping to the ground The mill is getting colder now. The floorboards are now creaking. I think I can smell smoke….

Descriptive Writing

WALT use descriptive features in our writing. We will know we are successful
 when we use …
  • Strong adjectives
  • Similes
  • Onomatopoeia
This is my dog Finn he is a black Labrador x huntaway. Finn’s as black as a shadow. This is a photo of Finn he loves to go for long walks and chew things like sticks, tennis balls and lots of other things. He is incredibly mischief so you have to keep watch of him like an eagle. I take him to a black sand beach everyday. When he barks it sounds like a powerful lion’s roar. He is as fast as a sprinting cheetah in a race. When he sprints he is as fast as a yellow lighting bolt. His collar is orange and bright yellow, he has light blue tag on his collar. Finn has a dog best friend and she is call Gemma * she is a pure breed lab. They go on walks together. They both love to chase cats. As soon as I turn the corner…...

Descriptive Writing

At the moment in class we have been working on descriptive writing. we have been using pictures to give us ideas of what to write about. Here is a piece of writing I did.

Click here for a link of the original work.
My Journey Back In Time
I am in a small room standing next to a big blue time machine. “Oh No!”
I screech. I have just fallen into the time machine. The time machine took
me millions of years back in time. “Splash.” I had just landed in a huge lake
that was sapphire blue with the clearest water I had ever seen with no ripples at all.
Underneath the water I spotted many colourful fish. The Journey back in time took
me to the most beautiful place I had ever seen. Then I looked up and turn around in one circle and instantly I see a Brachiosaurus, Barapasaurus and Pterosaurs! There were only plant eating dinosaurs in this area.

I spot lots of tree around with silver mist surrounding them. “Wow!” I said to myself outloud. There were huge rock mountains as taller then towers right in front of me. Suddenly I hear a sniffing noise right behind me I do not know if I should turn around, But instantly I turn around and see baby sauropod. The little dinosaur has greeny yellow eyes with a green body and a long neck. Then it walled away from me and starts to eat tree branches.

I keep walking and then I see a T-rex! Suddenly it sees me too and I run as fast as I can. As I jump over a log I feel like I can fly. I slip over in the mud and I smell so bad. I can see the tree swaying like dancers saying to me “Hide over here.” I run over to the trees and hide amongst them. The T-rex looks around for me but he can not see me. I walk into the lake so I can clean my clothes. The clear water starts to go a muddy brown colour. Then I spot a hole in the ground I walk over into it and it takes me back to my town.
