For this activity, choose a book that you like and write a short review of it. In the review, tell us what the book is about and what you like about it.
On your blog, share your book review with a photo or illustration (drawing) of the book.

The book I am choosing to write a review about is Holes by Louis Sachar because one of my favourite books, it also is very good because it gives you clues to what will happen in the end. The main character is Stanley Yelnats. Stanley is sent to camp green lake in Texas. While he is at camp green lake he makes some new friends.

Summer Learning Journey

For this activity, we would like you like you to write a short story. The story can be about anything that you wish but to receive full points it must be at least 10 sentences long!
On your blog, share your short story. We can’t wait to read it!
Once upon a time ago there was a dog called Buster and he was a pure bred Rottweiler. All of the dogs in town were scared of him because he used to chase the any dog that ran on his property far away but one day Buster was not at his house. So all the dogs went looking for him. They went down into an ally-way and they all saw scratch marks fur, and they found his collar. One of the dogs picked up the collar and brought it home. They all followed the dog with the collar so that they could examine the collar closely. It was time that they all went and looked for him. They could hear barking over in the old warehouse so the dogs went over to it. They kicked the window and all the glass smashed into smithereens. Over near the cardboard boxes buster was over their tied with a chain. They quickly freed him and ran away. And they lived happily ever after.

I think Ruby Tui because she is a great role model to many people and she is good at encouraging other people, she is great at rugby and that is why I think she should go on the 10 dollar note.

Summer Learning Journey

For this activity, please consider the problem that black men and women faced in America at this time.
On your blog, describe the problem. What did Rosa Parks do about the problem? How did other people react?

On the 1st of December 1955 Rosa Parks was extremely tired of how coloured people where getting treated. At the time seats at the front where reserved for white people and the seats at the back were for the black people. After a long day at work Rosa Parks boarded onto the bus and took a seat. The bus filled u very quickly and a white man came on and the bus driver told the African American passengers to give up their seats to him because he was white but Rosa disobeyed him and refused to do as he said. In the end Rosa was arrested by the police because of breaking segregation laws. Rosa refused to pay and argued that the law was wrong.  And on the 13th November 1956 the supreme court that Alabama racial segregation weren't valid and should not be recognised

For this activity, we would like you to explore the School Strike for Climate Australia website.
On your blog, list three facts (things) that you learned, and include a photograph of something that you are doing around home to help the environment.

1) The Students are striking because they want the government to stop fossil fuel projects. E.g coal mining.
2) Renewable energy is better for the environment and they are trying to encourage the government to support renewable projects like wind or solo power.
3) Climate change has become a crisis.

For this activity, please imagine that you are Mr Mandela and that you are living at Robben Island prison. You have been given a journal and each night you write in it.
On your blog, write a journal entry imagining that you are Mr Mandela. What do you think he did each day? How did he feel? Include as much detail as you can in the journal entry.

I am trapped in this horrid prison. There is no escape otherwise you get sliced into shreds or beaten. I can see the blue waves as they crash onto the surface. The grey brick walls are starting to grow mould into them.

For this activity, please write a letter that includes the issue you have chosen, why you have chosen it, and what you would like our Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, to do about it. It is your job to persuade us (and her!) that it’s an important issue.
On your blog, share your letter to Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.

Dear Jacinda,
I just thought their should be some more hotels and motels that pets can go and stay at with their owners over the summer holidays so they don't get left at home because imagine that you were a pet and you were left at home with a stranger you had never met before and you are left with them for a week or maybe even more than that. You wouldn't get as much attention, don't get any exercise until your owners get back from their holiday and you are also extremely board, lonely and sad. But if their was accommodation for yourself and your pet, it would be the best moment of the pets whole life. So next time you go on holiday think of how your pet would feel if it came too.

Your Sincerely
Summer

For this activity, listen to the podcast of Yusra Mardini, or read her story on her personal website.
On your blog, retell the story of this amazing young woman from Syria.

Yusra and he elder sister escaped the Syrian war and was trying to get to find safety in Europe, where she and 20 other people wanted to get to. 15 minutes into the sea they where and  boats engine had failed to work. Luckily, Yusra was a professional swimmer, so she dived straight into the water as well as her and her elder sister and two other people. Yusra was so determined not to let any of her fellow passengers drown just because of the engine failure. Herself, her sister and the two other people were swimming in the water for 3 and a half hours in open water trying to stop their dingy from capsizing.
I thing that was extremely brave of what she did to help those people.

For this activity, let’s imagine that you could be a superhero for a day. What three superpowers would you most like to have?
On your blog, please list the three superpowers, tell us why you have chosen each one, and tell us what you are going to do with them.

If I could choose three superpowers I would choose:
Water-powers: I would choose water powers because I would like to control water and be able to help animals in hot places that need water to survive.
Talk With Animals: I would choose to talk to animals because I love animals and would love to talk to them and also so I could help them if they needed it.
Flying: I would choose flying because I would really like to fly really high in the sky with all of the birds and other animals. I would also like to fly so that I could dive bomb into the water.

One day my kitten was stuck on the roof of our house and she could not get down so my uncle came around and got my cat down of the roof. My uncle had to climb up onto the roof using the ladder. I think that was brave of him to do that.

For this activity, please select a charity that you are interested in. You may choose your own or use one from our list (below). Read about the charity.
On your blog, write a short explanation of what the charity does.

Each year the SPCA helped protect over 40,000 animals that have been injured, sick, abused or abused. The people that work at the SPCA are volunteers. So they give up their time to come and look after these animals. They take the animals back to where the other animals are then they look after them. The SPCA try their best to rehome the animals to new homes where they will be safe and looked after good,

Summer Learning Journey

For this activity we would like you to think about your own experiences and your own cultural background. Where does your family come from? Do they come from Europe like Abel Tasman, Polynesia like Kupe, or somewhere else?
On your blog, please tell us about your cultural background. Where do you and your family come from?

My Great Great Grandparents on my mum's side of my family came to New Zealand from Ireland and have been living in the South Island and West Coast since then.

My great great grandparents on my dads side came to New Zealand from German, Ireland and Scotland.

My Mum has chosen to stay on the West Coast  because she likes living in a small community (where it is not busy), with her friends and where her family is around her.

I like to explore the outdoors, going swimming, playing lots of sport together with our friends and especially playing and spending heaps of time with pets/animals,
